Why do we use بعضی از instead of just بعضی?

Why is there an extra ی at the end of خانوادههای?

Why isn't there a می prefix on the verb ندارند (they do not have)?
The verb داشتن (to have) is a special exception in the present tense. Unlike most Farsi verbs, it does not use the می prefix for its positive or negative forms. To say they do not have, you simply attach the negative prefix نـ directly to the present stem دار, followed by the they ending ـند.
