The current lesson says to make present verbs negative using نمی (nemi). Why doesn't نیست (nist) follow this rule?
The verb 'to be' is an important exception! While regular verbs take the نمی (nemi-) prefix to become negative in the present tense, the word for 'is' simply changes from است (ast) to نیست (nist).
