Questions & Answers about چرا پیراهن سیاه را انتخاب نکردی؟
How is the negative simple past formed in the verb انتخاب نکردی?
انتخاب کردن is a compound verb meaning 'to choose' (literally 'to do choice'). To make it negative in the past tense, you only add the negative prefix نـ (na-) to the helper verb. So کردی (you did) becomes نکردی (you didn't do), giving us انتخاب نکردی (you didn't choose).
Why is the object marker را placed after the color سیاه instead of the shirt (پیراهن)?
The word را marks the specific direct object of the sentence. Here, the entire phrase 'the black shirt' (پیراهن سیاه) is the object. The rule is that را always goes at the very end of the whole noun phrase, right after any adjectives.
Is there a hidden sound between پیراهن (shirt) and سیاه (black)?
Yes, there is an ezafe linking them! When a noun is followed by an adjective, they are connected by a short 'e' sound. So it is pronounced پیراهنِ سیاه (pirāhan-e siyāh). This connecting vowel is usually not written in the Farsi alphabet.
Do I need to change the word order because چرا (why) makes this a question?
No, Farsi doesn't flip the word order for questions like English does. You just put the question word چرا at the beginning of the sentence and keep the normal word order, with the verb انتخاب نکردی staying right at the end.
