How is the verb بودم (I was) formed here?
It comes from the infinitive بودن (to be). For the simple past tense, we take the past stem بود (was) and add the personal ending for the pronoun I, which is -م. So, بود + -م becomes بودم (I was).
The English translation says 'at the gym', but I don't see a word for 'at'. Why is that?
In everyday spoken Farsi, the preposition در (in or at) is often dropped when the location is clear from the context. It is completely natural to just say باشگاه بودم instead of در باشگاه بودم.
Why are the time words دیروز صبح placed right after the subject من?
