Questions & Answers about چرا شما آنها را اذیت میکنید؟
Why do we add را (ra) after آنها (anha)?
آنها (anha) means "they" or "them". In Farsi, when a specific person or thing is the direct object (the one receiving the action), we mark it with را (ra). Here, آنها را acts as the independent object pronoun meaning "them" (the people being bothered).
Why is the object pronoun آنها را (anha ra) in the middle of the sentence?
Unlike English, which puts the object after the verb ("bother them"), Farsi usually puts the verb at the very end of the sentence. So, the independent object آنها را comes before the verb اذیت میکنید (aziyat mikonid).
Why are there two words, اذیت میکنید (aziyat mikonid), for "bother"?
Farsi uses many compound verbs made of a noun plus a helper verb. "To bother" is اذیت کردن (aziyat kardan), which literally means "to do bother." In this sentence, اذیت is the noun part, and میکنید is the helper verb conjugated to mean "you do."
Could I drop the word شما (shoma) and still be understood?
Yes! The verb ending in میکنید (mikonid) already tells us the subject is "you" (plural or formal). Including شما (shoma) at the beginning is optional and is just used here for a little extra emphasis.
