Questions & Answers about آنها هر روز گوشت نمیخورند.
How is the negative verb نمیخورند put together?
It follows the pattern for the negative present tense: the negative prefix نـ (ne-) + the present prefix می (mi-) + the present stem of the verb to eat (خور, khor) + the they ending (ـند, -and).
I thought the negative prefix was pronounced na-. Why is it ne- in نمیخورند?
That is a special pronunciation rule for the present tense! Normally, the negative prefix is pronounced na-. But when it attaches directly before the present tense marker می (mi-), its pronunciation changes to ne-. That is why we say ne-mi-khor-and instead of na-mi-khor-and.
گوشت (meat) is the direct object here. Why isn't it followed by را (raa)?
You only use را (raa) when the direct object is specific, like the meat or that meat. Because the sentence is about eating meat in general, it stays unspecific and does not take را.
Why does هر روز (every day) come before گوشت (meat)?
In Farsi, the standard word order usually places time expressions like هر روز early in the sentence, right after the subject. The direct object گوشت goes later, sitting right before the verb at the end of the sentence.
