Questions & Answers about اتاقم کوچک است.
How does the word اتاقم translate to "my room"?
In Farsi, possession is often shown by attaching a short suffix directly to the noun. The base word for "room" is اتاق. By adding the suffix ـم (-am) for "my", it becomes اتاقم (my room).
How would I change اتاقم to say "your room" or "his room"?
You just change the suffix! Replace ـم (-am) with ـت (-at) to get اتاقت (your room), or use ـش (-ash) to get اتاقش (his/her room).
Why isn't there an ezafe (the linking "e" sound) between "my room" and "small"?
You only use an ezafe when attaching an adjective directly to a noun to make a phrase, like saying "the small room". Here, کوچک (small) is what the room is. Because the sentence is structured as "My room is small" rather than "My small room", no ezafe is needed to link them.
Why does است come at the very end of the sentence?
In Farsi, the verb almost always goes at the very end of the sentence. Since است is the verb meaning "is", it follows the adjective کوچک (small) to complete the thought.
