Attached Possessive Suffixes
Instead of using a separate pronoun with the Ezafe particle, you can attach a possessive suffix directly to the end of a noun.
The singular possessive suffixes are:
- م (my)
- ت (your)
- ش (his/her/its)
First Person: "My" (م)
Attach م directly to the end of the word.
| My hand is dirty. | دستم کثیف است.dastam kasif ast. |
| My head is heavy today. | امروز سرم سنگین است.emrooz saram sangin ast. |
Second Person: "Your" (ت)
Attach ت to the noun. This attaches just as easily to plural nouns, coming directly after the plural marker.
| Your face is clean. | صورتت تمیز است.sûratat tamiz ast. |
| Your eyes are beautiful. | چشمهایت زیبا است.cheshm-hâyat zibâ ast. |
Third Person: "His / Her / Its" (ش)
Attach ش. Farsi pronouns are gender-neutral, so this single suffix covers "his", "her", and "its".
| Her face is small. | صورتش کوچک است.sooratash koochak ast. |
| His tooth is black. | دندانش سیاه است.dandânash siyâh ast. |
Nouns Ending in a Silent Vowel
When a noun ends in the silent vowel ه, insert an الف (ا) before the suffix to separate the vowels. The suffixes become ام, ات, and اش.
| My house is big. | خانهام بزرگ است.khâne-am bozorg ast. |
| His coffee is cold. | قهوهاش سرد است.ghahve-ash sard ast. |
