Questions & Answers about آن نویسندگان عالی هستند.
How do we get nevisandegân from the singular word for writer?
The singular word for writer is nevisande. Because it ends in a spoken 'e' sound, you cannot simply add the regular animate plural marker -ân. Instead, the 'e' drops and we add -gân. So, nevisande becomes nevisandegân.
If the sentence means 'those writers', why is the singular word ân (that) used instead of a plural?
In Farsi, when a pointing word like ân (that/those) comes directly before a noun, it always stays in its singular form. The noun itself (nevisandegân) already shows that it is plural, so we don't need to make the word ân plural too.
Does the adjective âli (excellent) need a plural ending to match the writers?
No, adjectives in Farsi never change to match plural nouns. The word âli stays exactly the same whether you are describing one writer or a hundred writers.
Why do we use the verb hastand here?
hastand is the 'they' form of the verb 'to be' (are). Since the subject is nevisandegân (writers, which is an animate plural noun), the verb must match it by taking the plural form.
