Questions & Answers about تشنهای و خیلی خستهای.
Where is the word for "you" in this sentence?
Farsi allows you to drop the subject pronoun, a feature known as being pro-drop. Here, the word تو (you) is completely left out because the ending ای attached to the adjectives already tells us exactly who we are talking about.
What does the ای at the end of تشنهای and خستهای mean?
It is a short, attached version of the verb to be for the second person singular, meaning you are. Instead of writing a separate verb word, Farsi simply attaches this ending directly to the end of the adjectives.
Why is there an ا (alef) before the ی in the endings?
The base words تشنه (thirsty) and خسته (tired) both end with a silent ه that sounds like an e. The you are ending is technically just the i sound. When you combine them, Farsi inserts an ا as a bridge between the two vowel sounds, making it smooth to read and say.
Why does the sentence attach the verb ending twice, once on each adjective?
In English, we often group things together and say you are thirsty and very tired, using the verb only once. In Farsi, when you use these short attached verbs, it is very common and natural to attach the verb ending to every adjective in the list.
