The quantifier all (hame)

The Quantifier همه

To express "all" or "entirety" in Farsi, use the word همه.

When specifying "all of" a particular group or thing, connect همه to the noun using the ezafe. Because همه ends in a silent eh sound, the ezafe takes the form of ی (making it همه‌ی).

The noun that follows is usually plural, or a collective noun like "people" (مردم) or "crowd" (جمعیت).

Using Possessive Enclitics

To say "all of us," "all of you," or "all of them," you don't need a separate noun. Instead, attach the plural possessive enclitics directly to همه:

  • همه‌مان (all of us)
  • همه‌تان (all of you)
  • همه‌شان (all of them)
