Setting the Scene
When talking about cinema and acting in Farsi, you will use vocabulary like کارگردان (director), صحنه (scene), and the verb هدایت کردن (to direct / guide).
| The director was guiding the actors for this scene. | کارگردان بازیگران را برای این صحنه هدایت میکرد.kârgardân bâzigarân râ barâye in sahne hedâyat mikard. |
Doing Things "Just As" Instructed
To describe an action being performed exactly as requested, written, or previously done, Farsi uses the conjunction همانطور که (just as / in the same way that).
This is useful for talking about following instructions, such as an actor delivering a line exactly as it appears in the script.
| He repeated the dialogue exactly just as it is in the script. | او دیالوگ را دقیقاً همانطور که در فیلمنامه است تکرار کرد.u diyâlog râ daqiqan hamântor ke dar filmnâme ast tekrâr kard. |
You can also place the clause with همانطور که at the beginning of the sentence to establish the instruction first:
| Just as the director said, please look at the camera and smile. | همانطور که کارگردان گفت، لطفاً به دوربین نگاه کن و لبخند بزن.hamântor ke kârgardân goft, lotfan be durbin negâh kon va labkhand bezan. |
Versatility Across Tenses
The conjunction همانطور که connects clauses naturally across different tenses. You can use it to describe an ongoing past action matching a completed instruction:
| We were recording the scene just as you directed. | ما صحنه را همانطور که شما هدایت کردید ضبط میکردیم.mâ sahne râ hamântor ke shomâ hedâyat kardid zabt mikardim. |
You can even use it to describe keeping something "just as it was," unaltered in its original state:
| Because I liked the role, I memorized the script just as it was. | چون من نقش را دوست داشتم، فیلمنامه را همانطور که بود حفظ کردم.chon man naqsh râ dust dâshtam, film-nâme râ hamântor ke bud hefz kardam. |
