Not anymore (digar)

"Not Anymore": دیگر with Negative Verbs

To express that a habit, state, or action has been discontinued—meaning you do it "no longer" or "not anymore"—Farsi pairs the adverb دیگر with a negative verb.

While دیگر often translates to "other" or "else" in positive contexts, combining it with a negated verb transforms its meaning entirely. It is usually placed early in the sentence, right after the subject.

Phasing Out Obsolete Tech

As technology advances, we inevitably phase out outdated gadgets like wired phones (گوشی‌های سیم‌دار) and CDs (سی‌دی‌ها). Use دیگر to talk about the items you have replaced because they are too slow (کند) or completely obsolete (منسوخ).

The Casual Shortcut: دیگه

In spoken Farsi and casual messaging, دیگر is almost always shortened to دیگه.

When you see or hear this, the rest of the sentence will usually follow casual pronunciation rules as well. For example, "is broken" (خراب است) becomes خرابه, and "does not listen" (گوش نمی‌دهد) becomes گوش نمیده.
