Negative adjectives (nâ-)

In Farsi, you can reverse the meaning of an adjective by adding the negative prefix نا-. This functions exactly like the English prefixes "un-", "in-", or "dis-".

For example, adding نا- to درست (correct) creates نادرست (incorrect), and adding it to راضی (satisfied) creates ناراضی (dissatisfied).

Like all adjectives, negative adjectives can act as the predicate of a sentence, or they can directly modify a noun using the ezâfe connector.

Expressing Uncertainty and Validity

You will frequently use نا- to talk about things that are unclear, invalid, or unrecognized. For example, attaching نا- to شناخته (known) creates ناشناخته (unknown), and attaching it to مشخص (specified) creates نامشخص (unspecified).
