Inclusive range (az ... gerefte tâ ...)

Expressing an Inclusive Range

To emphasize a broad spectrum of things—like describing diverse artifacts in a museum—Farsi uses a correlative structure meaning "ranging from ... to ...":

  • از [Noun/Pronoun] گرفته تا [Noun/Pronoun]

Place your starting example after از (from), add گرفته (the past participle of "to take," used idiomatically as "starting from"), and place your final example after تا (to).

Here is a helpful verb often used with this structure to describe collections:

to encompass / to contain
دربرگرفتنdar-bar-gereftan

Placement in the Sentence

This phrase provides descriptive information. It typically follows a broad summary word—such as "variety" or "everything"—to specify what that group includes.

You can place the از ... گرفته تا ... phrase at the very end of the sentence, or insert it mid-sentence directly after the noun phrase it describes.
