Form IV verbal nouns (ef'âl)

The افعال Pattern

Farsi uses an Arabic verbal noun pattern to express the realization or causation of an action. By placing a three-letter root into the e-C1-C2-â-C3 template—starting with an الف (e) and adding another الف (â) before the final root letter—you create these nouns.

Words like ادغام (merger) and الزام (obligation) use this exact structure.

Execution and Disruption

Because this pattern indicates bringing a state into existence, it is heavily used for official acts, enforcing rules, and executing projects. When laws are applied (اعمال) or systems are hindered by disruption (اخلال), this pattern is at work.

You will hear this rhythm constantly in legal, civic, and news broadcasts. A suspect making a confession (اقرار), an official offering guidance (ارشاد), or an army securing an occupation (اشغال) all rely on this noun form.

Compulsion and Expression

Abstract concepts of human interaction, such as forcing someone's hand (اجبار), a judge showing leniency (ارفاق), or the outward expression of a feeling (ابراز), also fall perfectly into this template.
