When a noun modified by a relative clause (e.g., "the machine that I built") is also a definite direct object, Farsi uses a strict word order.
The noun takes the indefinite suffix ی (which flags the relative clause), followed immediately by the definite object marker را, and then the connecting word که.
Pattern: [Noun] + ی را که + [Relative Clause] + [Main Clause]
| I pushed the lever that you see here. | اهرمی را که اینجا میبینی، فشار دادم.ahromi râ ke injâ mibini, feshâr dâdam. |
Notice the sequence اهرمی را که (the lever that). This keeps the noun, its suffix, and the object marker tightly grouped before the relative clause begins.
| They turned the axis that the engineer built. | محوری را که مهندس ساخت، چرخاندند.mehvari râ ke mohandes sâkht, charkhândand. |
| Did you test the piston that I brought? | آیا پیستونی را که آوردم، تست کردی؟âyâ pistuni râ ke âvordam, test kardi? |
Words Ending in Vowels
If the noun ends in a silent e (like تسمه or قرقره), the suffix is written as های. The sequence becomes های را که.
| The inspector rejected the belt that you sent. | بازرس تسمهای را که فرستادی، رد کرد.bâzras tasme-i râ ke ferestâdi, rad kard. |
| We installed the pulley that they bought. | قرقرهای را که خریدند، نصب کردیم.qerqere'i râ ke kharidand, nasb kardim. |
Similarly, if a word ends in the vowel i (like نوآوری), the suffix attaches as ای to form ای را که.
| Do you like the innovation that they introduced? | آیا نوآوریای را که معرفی کردند، دوست داری؟âyâ nowâvari-i râ ke mo'arrefi kardand, dust dâri? |
Nouns with Adjectives
When the modified noun includes an adjective, the suffix ی and the object marker را attach to the very end of the noun phrase (directly to the adjective).
| Did you check the moving part that I brought? | آیا قطعهی متحرکی را که آوردم، چک کردی؟âyâ qet'e-ye motaharreki râ ke âvardam, chek kardi? |
| I bought the exclusive tool that you see here. | ابزار انحصاریای را که اینجا میبینی، خریدم.abzâr-e enhesâri-i râ ke injâ mibini, kharidam. |
