Why is it Dit is and not Deze is, since kamer is a de-word?
When introducing or pointing something out with "This is..." or "That is...", Dutch always uses the neutral Dit is or Dat is, regardless of the noun's gender. You would only use deze if it were placed directly in front of the noun, like deze kamer (this room).
Why does the adjective geheim become geheime here?
Because kamer is a de-word (de kamer). When an adjective comes before a noun, it usually gets an -e ending. For de-words, it always gets an -e, whether it follows de (the) or een (a). The adjective would only stay geheim if it came before a het-word with een (like een geheim boek).
When adding the -e to geheim, why don't we double the m to make it "geheimme"?
In Dutch spelling, you only double a final consonant if you need to keep the vowel before it sounding "short" (like dom becoming domme). The ei in geheim is a combination vowel that already has its own set sound, so you don't need an extra m. You just attach the -e directly.
