Questions & Answers about We zullen goed nadenken.
Why isn't the separable verb nadenken split up in this sentence?
Because of the future helping verb zullen (will). When you use a modal or future helping verb, the separable verb is pushed to the very end of the sentence and stays attached as a full infinitive. Without zullen, it would split: We denken goed na (We think carefully).
What does the prefix na add to the verb denken?
The base verb denken just means "to think". Adding the prefix na creates the separable verb nadenken, which specifically means to ponder, reflect, or think deeply about something.
Why does goed mean "carefully" instead of "good" here?
In Dutch, adjectives usually don't change form when used as adverbs (words that describe actions). Here, goed describes how the thinking is done. While it literally means "well" or "good", translating it as "carefully" fits the English meaning perfectly.
Why do we use zullen instead of zal?
Zullen is the plural form of the future helping verb, matching our plural subject we. If the subject were singular, like ik (I) or hij (he), we would use zal.
