Questions & Answers about Die taal is mooi.
Why is it die taal and not dat taal for "that language"?
In Dutch, the word for "that" depends on whether the noun is a de word or a het word. Because taal is a de word (de taal), we use die. If we were talking about a het word, like het boek (the book), we would use dat boek (that book).
How does die relate to the question words welke and welk from this lesson?
They follow the exact same rule! Because taal is a de word, you use die for "that", and you also use welke for "which" (welke taal). If you have a het word, you use dat for "that" and welk for "which" (welk boek). Knowing that a word uses die tells you it also uses welke.
Why is the adjective just mooi and not mooie?
When an adjective comes directly after a verb (like in is mooi), it stays in its basic form and never gets an extra -e. You only add the -e when the adjective comes directly in front of the noun it describes, like in die mooie taal (that beautiful language).
If I wanted to say "those languages", would change?
