### Definite vs. Indefinite Direct Objects

In Dutch, the placement of a direct object depends on whether it is **definite** or **indefinite**. This shift in word order is especially important when your sentence includes adverbs of time, manner, or place.

A **definite** direct object refers to a specific thing. It usually follows definite articles like *de* or *het* (the), or pronouns like *deze* (this) or *mijn* (my). 

An **indefinite** direct object refers to a general or non-specific thing. It often follows *een* (a/an) or appears as a plural noun with no article at all.

### Definite Objects Precede Adverbs

When a direct object is definite, it is placed **before** adverbs of time, manner, or place.

In these examples, the definite objects (*het huishouden* and *de woonkamer*) come before the adverbs (*vandaag grondig* and *netjes*).
