Domain restrictions (qua, -gezien)

Using qua (in terms of)

When discussing specifications or evaluating projects, use the preposition qua ("in terms of" or "regarding") directly in front of a noun to restrict your statement to a specific domain.

In terms of hardware, this renewed product is significantly better.
Qua hardware is dit vernieuwde product aanzienlijk beter.

You can also place these phrases in the middle of a sentence:

Have you checked the hardware in terms of technical specifications?
Hebben jullie de hardware qua technische specificaties gecontroleerd?

Using -gezien (speaking)

Another way to frame a statement is by placing gezien after an adjective. While literally meaning "viewed," it translates to "-ly speaking" or "from a ... point of view."

Technically speaking, this project is unfortunately not feasible.
Technisch gezien is dit project helaas niet uitvoerbaar.
Commercially speaking, the capacity of the battery is too small.
Commercieel gezien is de capaciteit van de batterij te klein.

Word order: Inversion

Both qua and -gezien phrases are adverbials. When placed at the beginning of a sentence, they trigger inversion (the verb comes right before the subject).

Notice the inversion in both halves of this sentence:

In terms of dimensions the room is good, but aesthetically speaking something is missing.
Qua afmetingen is de kamer goed, maar esthetisch gezien ontbreekt er iets.
