Questions & Answers about Moramo brzo doći na termin jer se žurimo.
The current lesson is about time, but what exactly does termin mean here?
termin is the standard Croatian word for an appointment or a scheduled time slot. You use it when you book a specific time with a doctor, a hairdresser, or even a sports court, making it a very useful word when discussing schedules.
Why do we use na termin instead of u termin?
In Croatian, you use na (onto or at) with the accusative case when going to an event, meeting, or appointment. Since a termin is a scheduled event rather than a physical enclosed room, we use na termin.
Could I use ići (to go) instead of doći (to come or arrive) in this sentence?
You could say Moramo brzo ići (We must go quickly), but doći specifically means to arrive or to get to a destination. Using doći na termin emphasizes successfully arriving at the appointment on time.
Why is there a se in jer se žurimo?
The verb for 'to hurry' is žuriti se. It is a reflexive verb, which means it requires the reflexive pronoun se. You will often see it used when someone is rushing to make it to their scheduled time!
