Relative clauses with resumptive pronouns (što)

Relative Clauses with što

Instead of using koji ("which" or "that") in relative clauses, you can use the invariable word što.

Because što never changes form, it must be paired with a resumptive clitic pronoun (like ga, je, or ih) inside the relative clause to indicate the gender, number, and case of the noun it replaces.

Think of it as saying "the device that I returned it" instead of "the device which I returned".

That is the defective device that I returned today.
To je neispravan uređaj što sam ga danas vratio.

The clitic pronoun must match the noun it refers back to:

Feminine (je):

They accepted the claim that I sent yesterday.
Prihvatili su reklamaciju što sam je jučer poslao.

Masculine and Neuter (ga):

Do I have a warranty for the factory defect that I noticed yesterday?
Imam li jamstvo za tvornički kvar što sam ga jučer primijetio?
You must send the device to the repair service in the packaging that you kept.
Moraš poslati uređaj u servis u pakiranju što si ga zadržao.

Plural (ih):

Dissatisfied consumers that we see here often return products.
Nezadovoljni potrošači što ih ovdje vidimo često reklamiraju proizvode.
