To express that an event happened after another action was completed, use the phrase nakon što.

This is formed by combining the preposition nakon (after) with the subordinating conjunction što (that).

Describing Past Sequences

When recounting a sequence of events in the past, both the action in the nakon što clause and the action in the main clause take the standard past tense (perfekt).

After the producer read the script, we started the filming.
Nakon što je producent pročitao scenarij, počeli smo snimanje.
After they finished the filming, the editing began.
Nakon što su završili snimanje, počela je montaža.

Clause Order and Commas

A temporal clause starting with nakon što can be placed at the beginning or the end of a sentence.

When the nakon što clause comes first, you must separate it from the main clause with a comma.

After we filmed the first shot, we were very happy.
Nakon što smo snimili prvi kadar, bili smo vrlo sretni.
After the director released the movie, we prepared the premiere.

When the nakon što clause comes second, no comma is needed.

I dealt with the script after they finished the editing.
