Moving Day

Relocating to a new home requires specific vocabulary. Let's look at how to describe packing, transporting, and unpacking your belongings.

Packing and Labeling

When planning a relocation (selidba), you will usually need plenty of cardboard (kartonski) boxes.

The relocation will be easy because we have cardboard boxes.
Selidba će biti laka jer imamo kartonske kutije.

To protect your fragile items, you can wrap them in protective foil (folija).

We wrapped the fragile furniture with foil.
Zamotali smo krhak namještaj folijom.

Once everything is packed, it is important to mark (označiti) your boxes. You can do this easily using a sticker (naljepnica).

They marked each box with a red sticker.
Označili su svaku kutiju crvenom naljepnicom.

Transporting Your Belongings

When the moving van arrives, the next step is to load (ukrcati) your furniture and boxes.

The workers loaded the large furniture into the van.
Radnici su ukrcali veliki namještaj u kombi.

After arriving at your new home, you will need to unload (iskrcati) everything and transfer (prenijeti) the items inside.

We unloaded the boxes and transferred them into the apartment.
Iskrcali smo kutije i prenijeli ih u stan.

Placing and Unpacking

Once everything is indoors, you can begin to place (smjestiti) furniture into specific rooms.

We placed the bed into the new room.
Smjestili smo krevet u novu sobu.

The final step in the process is to unpack (raspakirati) your clothes and everyday items to make the new place feel like home.

As soon as we came into the apartment, we unpacked everything.
Čim smo došli u stan, sve smo raspakirali.
