Dog Walking & Training

Learn how to talk about walking your dog, navigate interactions at the park, and describe basic training and behavior.

Puppies and Training

Puppies (štene) are usually very playful (zaigran) and need training (dresirati) to behave well around others.

Barking and Rewards

Dogs might bark (lajati) as they interact with their environment. To encourage good behavior, carry a treat (poslastica). Notice that expressing the absence of something with nema (there is/are no) requires the following noun to be in the genitive case.

The playful puppy barks at the other dogs.
Zaigrano štene laje na druge pse.
There are no treats in my pocket.
Nema poslastica u mojem džepu.

Leashes and Exploring

For safety, keep your dog on a leash (povodac) while they sniff (njušiti) the grass. Once you reach a dog park, you can unleash (odvezati) them to run freely.

The dog on the leash is sniffing the grass.
Pas na povocu njuši travu.
When will you unleash the dog?
Kada ćeš odvezati psa?

Behavior and Obedience

Dogs may growl (režati) if they feel threatened or angry. Good obedience (poslušnost) through consistent training is essential to manage these situations.

I give the dog a treat for obedience.
