Game Pieces
When setting up for a tabletop game night, you first need to know your playing pieces. The word for dice is kockica (literally "little cube"), and your player token or figure is a pijun (pawn). During your turn, you will typically throw (baciti) the dice and move (pomaknuti) your piece.
| The dice is under the table. | Kockica je pod stolom. |
| Throw the dice and move the pawn. | Baci kockicu i pomakni pijuna. |
Players and Turns
Whether you are playing cooperatively or competitively, you will interact with a suigrač (teammate) and a protivnik (opponent). If things do not go your way, the rules might force you to preskočiti (skip) your turn or potez (move).
| My teammate is very worried today. | Moj suigrač je danas vrlo zabrinut. |
| Our opponent must skip this move. | Naš protivnik mora preskočiti ovaj potez. |
Cards, Tiles, and Rounds
Many games are structured into stages called a runda (round). Before a new round begins, a player may need to promiješati (shuffle) the game components, which commonly include a karta (playing card) or a pločica (tile).
| Before the new round, shuffle the cards. | Prije nove runde, promiješaj karte. |
| I will shuffle these tiles. | Promiješat ću ove pločice. |
Scoring and Winning
Once the game concludes, it is time for the bodovanje (scoring). To find out who the winner is, players must zbrojiti (sum up) their points.
| Now the scoring begins, so we must sum up the points. | Sada počinje bodovanje, pa moramo zbrojiti bodove. |
| When we sum up the points, the opponent is the winner. | Kad zbrojimo bodove, protivnik je pobjednik. |
