When something breaks — a phone, a car, a leaky tap — you need three pieces of language: how to say it's broken, how to ask whether it can be repaired, and how to say you'll fix it. The verb at the centre is naprawiać / naprawić ("to repair, fix"). This page gives you the full conjugation plus the two phrases that almost always travel with it: the complaint Nie działa ("it doesn't work") and the impersonal possibility construction Da się to naprawić ("it can be fixed"). Together they form a clean, high-frequency B1 toolkit for dealing with anything that has gone wrong.
The aspect pair
- naprawiać (imperfective) — am-asz type. The process or repeated activity of fixing: Tata właśnie naprawia rower ("Dad is fixing the bike right now"), On naprawia komputery ("He repairs computers" — his job).
- naprawić (perfective) — -ę, -isz type. A single completed (or to-be-completed) repair: Naprawiłem pralkę ("I fixed the washing machine"), Naprawię to jutro ("I'll fix it tomorrow").

A regular -ę, -isz verb. The stem is napraw-; note the softening w → wi before the front-vowel endings.

The 1sg naprawię ends in the nasal ę (the soft wi + ę), and 3pl naprawią in ą. The other persons have plain naprawi- with no nasal.

1sg personal: naprawiłem (m.) / naprawiłam (f.). The aspect choice in the past is meaningful: Naprawiałem samochód ("I was working on the car / I tried to fix the car" — process, possibly unfinished) vs Naprawiłem samochód ("I fixed the car" — done, it works now).
Naprawiłem zmywarkę, ale po tygodniu znowu się zepsuła.
I fixed the dishwasher, but it broke again after a week.
Mechanik naprawiał ten silnik trzy dni.
The mechanic worked on that engine for three days.
Imperative and participles
The imperative of the perfective is napraw! (ty), naprawmy! (my), naprawcie! (wy). The imperfective gives naprawiaj!, used for nagging or repeated action (Naprawiaj to porządnie, nie po łebkach! "Fix it properly, not half-heartedly!").
The passive participle naprawiony ("repaired") is everyday: naprawiony rower ("a repaired bike"), Telewizor jest już naprawiony ("The TV is fixed now"). The contemporary adverbial participle is naprawiając ("while fixing").
Napraw wreszcie ten dzwonek, od miesiąca nie działa!
Finally fix that doorbell, it hasn't worked for a month!
Government: what case follows?
naprawić takes a direct object in the accusative — the thing you repair: naprawić samochód ("fix the car"), naprawić telefon ("fix the phone"), naprawić błąd ("fix a mistake/bug"). For inanimate masculine and neuter nouns the accusative looks like the nominative; for feminine nouns it takes the -ę ending (naprawić pralkę). See the accusative direct object.

Beyond literal repairs, naprawić also means "put right, make amends": naprawić szkodę ("repair the damage"), naprawić błąd ("correct a mistake"), naprawić relacje ("mend a relationship").

The phrases that come with it: Nie działa and Da się to naprawić
In real life naprawić rarely travels alone. Two companions do most of the work:
Nie działa ("it doesn't work / it's not working") is the universal complaint. Działać means "to function/operate," so Coś nie działa = "Something's not working." It is what you say to a repair shop, a help desk, a colleague.
Da się to naprawić ("it can be fixed") uses the impersonal da się + infinitive construction — da się means "it is possible (to)." Its negative, Nie da się tego naprawić ("it can't be fixed"), takes the genitive tego under the genitive-of-negation rule. This da się construction comes from dać and is one of the most useful impersonal possibility patterns in Polish — see dać and the da-się possibility.
Pralka nie działa — myśli pan, że da się ją naprawić?
The washing machine doesn't work — do you think it can be fixed?
Niestety nie da się tego naprawić, trzeba kupić nowy.
Unfortunately it can't be fixed, you'll have to buy a new one.
