Questions & Answers about İntikam için saklansa saklansa o eski fıçıda saklanır.
Why is the conditional verb saklansa repeated twice here?
This is the reduplicated conditional structure, which expresses "at best," "at most," or "the only possible option." By repeating saklansa (literally "if he hides, if he hides"), the speaker emphasizes that out of all the possible places to hide, the old barrel is the absolute limit or the only conceivable choice.
Why does the sentence end with saklanır in the aorist (broad/simple present) tense?
When you use the double conditional (saklansa saklansa) to express an exclusive possibility, the main verb that completes the thought is almost always the exact same verb in the aorist tense. The aorist here acts as a strong prediction or assumption: "If he were to hide anywhere, he would hide there."
I learned that the verb for "to hide" is saklamak. Why do the verbs here have an extra -n in them?
Saklamak means to hide an object (like hiding a map or a key). When a person hides themselves, Turkish uses the reflexive suffix -n to create the verb saklanmak. Since the person in this sentence is hiding their own body in the barrel, we must use saklansa and saklanır instead of saklasa and saklar.
Does this repeated conditional pattern always translate to "at best"?
Not necessarily. It translates to whatever English phrase best captures the "absolute limit of possibility" for that specific context. Depending on the sentence, it could mean "at most," "if nothing else," or "the only likely thing." Here, "at best" or "the only place he'd hide" fits the mood perfectly.
