Questions & Answers about O gözde mekânın samimiyeti çok içten ve yürektendir.
How does gözde, which looks like "in the eye", translate to "favorite"?
This is a perfect example of a lexicalized adjective formed from the locative case. The noun göz (eye) takes the locative suffix -de (in/at). Over time, this phrase became a fixed dictionary word meaning "favorite", "popular", or "cherished". Here, it functions completely as a normal adjective modifying mekân (venue).
Both içten and yürekten have ablative (from) endings. Are they acting as adjectives here?
Yes! Just like gözde, these are lexicalized adjectives. İç (inside) + -ten (from) becomes içten (sincere). Yürek (heart) + -ten becomes yürekten (heartfelt). Even though they contain case suffixes, they have taken on new lives as standalone adjectives that describe the noun.
Why does only yürekten get the -dir (is) suffix, but not içten?
When multiple adjectives or nouns are linked by ve (and) and act as the predicate of the sentence, Turkish typically only attaches the "to be" copula (-dir in this case) to the final word in the list. This avoids repetition and sounds much more natural. The -dir on yürektendir applies to both içten and yürekten.
Why is there an -i at the end of ?
