Questions & Answers about Muhalefetin eleştirilerine karşın meslektaşlarımız bir uzlaşma sağladı.

Why does eleştirilerine end with the dative -e suffix?

The postposition karşın (meaning "despite" or "in spite of") always requires the preceding noun to be in the dative case. Let's break down the whole word: eleştiri (criticism) + -ler (plural) + -i (3rd person possessive, linking to the opposition) + -n- (buffer consonant) + -e (dative case for karşın).

Could I use rağmen instead of karşın in this sentence?

Absolutely. Both karşın and rağmen mean "despite" and both require the dative case. rağmen is an Arabic loanword and is extremely common in daily speech, whereas the Turkic word karşın tends to sound slightly more formal, making it perfect for news or professional contexts like this one.

sağladı usually means "provided" or "ensured". Why is it translated as "reached" here?

In Turkish, uzlaşma sağlamak is a standard collocation that means "to reach a compromise" or "to achieve consensus". While you might intuitively want to use a verb like varmak (to reach or arrive at), using sağlamak is the most natural way to express establishing an agreement in a formal or professional setting.
