Questions & Answers about İki tarafın bu hususta birleşmesi çok önemli.
Why does bu hususta take the locative case (-ta) here?
When the verb birleşmek (to unite) is used to mean 'to agree on' or 'to unite over' a specific topic, it requires its complement to be in the locative case (-DA). Think of it as the parties coming together 'in' or 'at' a single point of agreement.
Why is the action expressed as tarafın ... birleşmesi instead of just using the infinitive birleşmek?
The phrase 'the two parties uniting' acts as the subject of the entire sentence. To turn a whole clause into a noun-like subject, Turkish uses a genitive-possessive construction. The actor gets the genitive case (iki tarafın) and the action becomes a verbal noun with a matching possessive suffix (birleşme-si).
Since there are 'two' parties, why don't we use the plural form like iki tarafların?
As a quick refresher, nouns following a number in Turkish always remain in their singular form. Because taraf strictly stays singular after iki, it takes the singular genitive -ın, and the verbal noun takes the singular possessive -si to match it.
