Questions & Answers about Sigortanın yanı sıra spor salonu üyeliği de var.
Why does sigorta take the genitive suffix -nın before yanı sıra?
The phrase yanı sıra functions conceptually like a possessive compound. Since yanı has a 3rd person possessive suffix (-ı), the noun it belongs to usually takes the genitive case. Grammatically, sigortanın yanı sıra links together much like "the insurance's side".
What is the literal breakdown of the postposition yanı sıra?
It is formed from yan (side) + -ı (possessive suffix) + sıra (row/sequence). While it naturally translates to "besides" or "along with", its literal makeup is closer to "at the side row of".
Why does üyelik change to üyeliği in this sentence?
It forms a chained noun compound. The phrase spor salonu (gym) acts as a descriptor for üyelik (membership). To link them into "gym membership", üyelik takes the possessive suffix -i, which causes consonant mutation where the final k softens to ğ.
Is the particle de necessary here?
While the sentence would still be grammatical without it, de (also/too) pairs extremely naturally with yanı sıra (besides). It reinforces the additive nature of the sentence, emphasizing that the gym membership is an extra benefit on top of the insurance.
