Questions & Answers about Kırılmaz camlar ağır darbelere dayanır.
How exactly is the word kırılmaz formed from a verb?
It starts with the root kır from kırmak (to break). First, we add the passive suffix -ıl to get kırılmak (to be broken). Finally, adding the negative aorist suffix -maz turns it into an adjective meaning "that doesn't get broken" or "unbreakable".
Why does the word for impacts (darbeler) take the dative suffix -e to become darbelere?
The verb dayanmak (to withstand or endure) always requires the preceding noun to be in the dative case (the directional "to" case). In Turkish, you don't just withstand an impact; you withstand "to" an impact.
Why do both the adjective kırılmaz and the main verb dayanır use the aorist (broad time) tense?
The aorist is the standard tense for expressing general facts, natural laws, and inherent characteristics. Since this sentence states a timeless fact about how a specific material behaves, the aorist is used both to describe the glass (kırılmaz) and what it does (dayanır).
Does camlar also mean "glasses" as in the ones you wear on your face?
No. Cam specifically means glass as a material or a window pane. Even though we say "glasses" in English for eyewear, in Turkish you must use the word gözlük for that.
