Questions & Answers about Maliyetler yüksek olduğundan dolayı rekabet çok zordu.
Why do we use the verb olmak (in olduğundan) after the adjective yüksek?
Can you break down the suffixes in the word olduğundan?
It starts with the verb root ol-. Then we add the participle -dık (which softens to -duğ because a vowel comes next). After that is the 3rd person possessive suffix -u (meaning "its"), the buffer letter -n-, and finally the ablative case suffix -dan (from).
Why is there an -n- before the -dan suffix in olduğundan?
That is the pronominal buffer -n-. Whenever you attach a case marker (like the ablative -dan) immediately after a 3rd person possessive suffix (like the -u here), Turkish requires you to insert an -n- to link them smoothly.
Do we have to use the word dolayı for this sentence to make sense?
No, dolayı is optional here. The word olduğundan already carries the meaning of "because of its being". Adding dolayı (due to) just emphasizes the cause-and-effect relationship, similar to saying "due to the fact that" in English.
