Questions & Answers about Farkındalık arttıkça gelişim başlar.

How does the -dıkça ending work in arttıkça?
The suffix -dıkça (which changes vowels to -dikçe, -dukça, or -dükçe) attaches to a verb to mean "as [verb] happens" or "the more [verb] happens". Here, it attaches to artmak (to increase). Because the root art- ends in a hard consonant (t), the 'd' in the suffix hardens to 't', making it arttıkça ("as it increases").
Why use the aorist tense in başlar instead of the present continuous başlıyor?
The aorist tense, marked here by the -r in başlar, is used to state general truths, natural facts, or rules. Since this sentence expresses a general principle ("As awareness increases, development begins"), the aorist is the best fit. Sentences using -dıkça very often pair with the aorist tense for this exact reason.
How is the word farkındalık (awareness) built?
It starts with the root fark, which means "difference". From that, we get the expression farkında, meaning "aware" (literally "in its difference"). Finally, adding the common noun-forming suffix -lık gives us farkındalık, meaning the state of being aware, or "awareness".
What is the root of gelişim (development)?
It comes from the verb gelişmek, which means "to develop" or "to mature". The suffix -im (or -ım, -um, -üm) is added to verbs to turn them into nouns. You might recognize this same pattern in words like seçmek (to choose) becoming seçim (choice), or eğitmek (to educate) becoming eğitim (education).
