Why does the sentence use bana instead of beni?
In English, we say "helped me", making "me" the direct object. However, in Turkish, phrases about helping like yardımcı olmak (to be helpful) take the dative case, which shows direction. Think of it as the teacher being helpful to you. Therefore, we use bana (to me) instead of the direct object beni (me).
Since the word for "I" is ben, why does it change to bana instead of "bene"?
