Questions & Answers about Öğretmen yardım veriyor.
Why doesn't yardım have an ending like -ı to show it is the object?
Because it is a general, non-specific object. In Turkish, if you are giving "the help" (a specific help we already talked about), you would add the accusative ending to make it yardımı. But for general "help", the word stays in its plain form and sits right next to the verb.
The translation says "gives", but doesn't the -iyor ending mean "is giving"?
It can mean both! The -iyor ending is the present continuous tense (like English "-ing"). However, Turkish often uses this tense for general facts and routines where English uses the simple present tense ("gives").
Is yardım veriyor the normal way to say "helps"?
While yardım veriyor literally means "gives help" and makes perfect sense, Turkish speakers much more commonly use the helper verb etmek (to do/make) and say yardım ediyor to mean "helps".
How do I pronounce the ğ in Öğretmen?
The ğ (soft g) does not have its own sound. Instead, it simply lengthens the vowel right before it. So you pronounce Öğretmen by holding the ö sound a little longer, roughly like "öö-ret-men".
