Questions & Answers about Restorana gidiyoruz.
Why does restoran have an -a at the end?
The -a is the dative case suffix, which means "to" or "towards." Since you are going to the restaurant, you add -a to restoran to make restorana.
The verb for "to go" is gitmek. Why is there a "d" in gidiyoruz instead of a "t"?
This is a rule called consonant mutation. When the verb root git- (go) gets a suffix that starts with a vowel—like the present continuous suffix -iyor—the hard t softens to a d to make it easier to pronounce. So, git- becomes gid-.
Where is the word for "we" (biz) in this sentence?
In Turkish, the person doing the action is built right into the verb! The -uz at the very end of gidiyoruz means "we." You can put biz at the beginning of the sentence if you want to emphasize it, but it is usually left out.
Since this lesson is about the -dan/-den (from) suffix, how would I say "We are coming from the restaurant"?
