Questions & Answers about Sentetik malzeme yerine doğal malzeme seçer misin?
Why isn't there a suffix on sentetik malzeme before yerine?
When you say 'instead of' a specific person or thing, you usually use the genitive case, like Ahmet'in yerine (instead of Ahmet). However, when talking about general or uncountable concepts like sentetik malzeme, it stays in the plain dictionary form.
Where exactly does the word yerine come from?
It literally means 'to its place'. It is built from yer (place), the possessive -i (its), a buffer letter -n-, and the dative case -e (to). So you are literally asking if they would choose natural material 'to the place of' synthetic material.
Why use seçer misin instead of the present continuous seçiyor musun?
The verb seçmek (to choose) has the aorist suffix -er here. While seçiyor musun means 'Are you choosing right now?', the aorist is used for general habits, polite requests, and hypothetical situations like 'Would you choose?' or 'Do you generally choose?'.
Why is it malzeme and not the plural malzemeler?
In English, we often say 'synthetic materials' in the plural to talk about them generally. In Turkish, when talking about a general category or substance, the singular form is often preferred.
