Questions & Answers about Bence onun planı bencilce.
How does adding -ce to 'ben' make it mean 'in my opinion'?
The suffix -ce / -ca has a few different jobs. When attached to a pronoun or a person, it means 'according to' or 'in the opinion of'. So ben (I) becomes bence (according to me / in my opinion), and sen (you) becomes sence (according to you).
The word 'bencil' already means 'selfish'. Why add -ce to make 'bencilce'?
You could just say onun planı bencil, and that would be perfectly correct! However, adding -ce here turns the adjective into an adverbial form meaning 'in a selfish way' or 'rather selfishly'. Even though we just translate it as 'is selfish' in English, bencilce puts the focus on the manner or nature of the plan.
Why is there an -ı at the end of 'planı'?
This is a quick refresher on possessive endings. When you say 'his plan', you must link the owner (onun) and the owned object (plan). The object needs a possessive suffix to match the third-person owner, which in this case is -ı.
