Questions & Answers about Biz dedikodu yapmayacağız.
Why is there a -y- in yapmayacağız?
The verb root is yap- (to do). First, we add the negative suffix -ma. Because the future suffix -acak also starts with a vowel, we must use the buffer letter -y- to keep the two vowels apart. This gives us the future negative base: yap-ma-y-acak.
Why does the future suffix -acak become -acağ- here?
When the future suffix -acak gets a personal ending that starts with a vowel, like the 'we' ending -ız, the hard k softens into a ğ (yumuşak g). So instead of yapmayacak-ız, it becomes yapmayacağız.
Why do we use the verb yapmak (to do/make) in this sentence?
In Turkish, dedikodu is a noun that means 'gossip'. There isn't a single verb for 'to gossip'. Instead, you combine the noun with the helper verb yapmak to literally say 'to do gossip' (dedikodu yapmak).
Since the verb ends in -ız, is the word Biz (we) optional?
