Questions & Answers about Manzarayı izlemeyi ve bisiklet sürmeyi tercih ediyorum.
Why do the action words izlemeyi and sürmeyi end with -yi?
This is exactly what you are learning in this lesson! To say you prefer doing an action, you turn the verb into a noun by adding -me to the roots izle- and sür-. Because these actions are the direct objects of the verb tercih etmek (to prefer), they must take the accusative case. Since izleme and sürme end in a vowel, we use the buffer -y- and add the accusative suffix -i.
Why does Manzarayı have an accusative ending, but bisiklet does not?
This is a great example of the difference between specific and general objects. Manzarayı has the accusative suffix -(y)ı because you are watching a specific thing (watching the scenery). Bisiklet, however, is used in a general sense here. You are just "bike-riding," not riding the specific bike. General, indefinite objects in Turkish do not take the accusative suffix.
