When you do an action to a specific object (like "the door" instead of just "a door"), Turkish uses the accusative case. We add the suffix -ı to kapı. Because kapı ends in a vowel, we add the buffer consonant -y- to keep the vowels apart, resulting in kapıyı.

How do we get kapatma from the dictionary verb?

The dictionary form of the verb is kapatmak (to close). To give a command to one person informally, you drop the -mak to get the positive command kapat (close!). To make it negative ("don't close!"), you add the negative suffix -ma, giving us kapatma.

Why is the negative suffix -ma instead of -me?

This is due to vowel harmony. The last vowel in the verb root kapat is "a". Since "a" is a back (hard) vowel, the suffix must also use a back vowel. Therefore, we use -ma instead of -me.

Can I put lütfen at the end of the sentence like we often do in English?

It is best to put lütfen (please) at the beginning of the sentence or right before the verb. Tacking it onto the very end of the sentence usually sounds unnatural in Turkish.
