Questions & Answers about Siz müzik dinliyorsunuz.
What part of dinliyorsunuz means "you"?
The ending -sunuz is the personal suffix for siz (you, plural or formal). In the present continuous tense, the suffix -iyor always contains the vowel "o", so the "you" ending attached to it will always be -sunuz to follow vowel harmony rules.
The verb root for "listen" is dinle. Why does it become dinli- here?
When a verb root ends in the vowel e or a (like dinle-), that final vowel is dropped when we add the present continuous suffix -iyor. Here, dinle- loses its "e" and takes -iyor to make dinliyor. This prevents us from having two vowels awkwardly sitting next to each other.
Why doesn't müzik have any special object endings on it?
In Turkish, when you are talking about a general, unspecified thing (listening to "music" rather than "the music"), you don't add any grammatical endings to the object. It just stays in its plain dictionary form.
Do I have to include the word Siz at the beginning of the sentence?
No, you can simply say Müzik dinliyorsunuz. Because the verb ending -sunuz already clearly tells us that "you" are doing the action, the pronoun Siz is optional and is mostly used for extra emphasis.
