Questions & Answers about Çay iç.
Why is the verb just iç?
iç is the bare root of the verb içmek (to drink). In Turkish, to give a direct command to one person informally, you simply use this bare root without adding any endings.
Why is the order Çay iç instead of İç çay?
Turkish sentences usually follow a Subject-Object-Verb pattern. Even in short commands like this, the object you are acting upon (çay) comes before the verb (iç).
Why doesn't çay have any endings on it?
Because you are talking about drinking tea in general, not a specific cup of tea. General objects in Turkish stay in their plain dictionary form and don't take any extra endings.
Should I include the word for "you" (sen)?
You don't need to. The command form iç automatically implies you are talking to a single person informally. You could say Sen çay iç if you really wanted to emphasize "you", but usually the pronoun is dropped.
