Sudden and Unexpected Actions
When you are clumsy (sakar), accidents happen in the blink of an eye. Express that an action happened quickly, suddenly, or unexpectedly by attaching the compound suffix -(y)ıver to the verb.
To form this, add a 4-way connecting vowel (-ı, -i, -u, or -ü) and -ver to the verb root, then attach your standard tense and person endings.
| clumsy | sakar |
| I am very clumsy, I suddenly bumped into the table. | Ben çok sakarım, masaya çarpıverdim. |
| Where is the tray? It suddenly slipped from my hand. | Tepsi nerede? Elimden kayıverdi. |
Vowel Harmony
The connecting vowel follows 4-way vowel harmony. Notice how a front-unrounded root like ezmek (to crush) takes -i-, while a front-rounded root like düşürmek (to drop) takes -ü-. The -ver segment itself never changes its vowels.
| You should have been more careful, you suddenly crushed the cake! | Daha dikkatli olmalıydın, pastayı eziverdin! |
| The clumsy waiter suddenly dropped the tray. | Sakar garson tepsiyi düşürüverdi. |
Vowels and Quick Tasks
If the verb root ends in a vowel, insert the buffer -y- before the connecting vowel.
Aside from sudden accidents, this structure is also widely used for tasks done effortlessly, hastily, or on a whim.
| He quickly tidied the room in ten minutes. | Odayı on dakikada toparlayıverdi. |
| The cat suddenly darted out of the drawer. | Kedi aniden çekmeceden fırlayıverdi. |
