When packing for an outdoor trip, you often bring items "just in case." In Turkish, you express this by pairing a verb with **diye**.

To say "in case [something] happens," conjugate the verb in the Aorist (Simple Present) tense and follow it with **diye**. While **diye** often means "because" or "saying that," here it implies you are taking a precaution because you anticipate a possibility.

### Adding the Conditional

You can also use the Aorist Conditional (usually ending in **-rsa** or **-rse**) followed by **diye**. This translates to "in case it gets..." or "if it happens to...". It is especially common with the verb **olmak** (to be / to become) to anticipate changing conditions.
