Possessive pronouns (-ki)

To avoid repeating nouns, you can use possessive pronouns like "mine" or "yours." In Turkish, form these by adding the suffix -ki to the genitive (possessor) form of a word.

yours (singular)seninseninki
his / hers / itsonunonunki
oursbizimbizimki
yours (plural/formal)sizinsizinki

Notice that the -ki suffix does not follow vowel harmony; it is always -ki.

My necklace is heavy, but yours is light.
Benim kolyem ağır ama seninki hafif.
Theirs is a beautiful gift, but ours is more special.
Onlarınki güzel bir hediye ama bizimki daha özel.

Using -ki with Nouns

You can attach -ki to any noun in the genitive case to say things like "the woman's" or "the man's."

The woman's earring is silver, whereas the man's is gold.
Kadının küpesi gümüş, oysa adamınki altın.

Adding Case Endings to -ki

Because these stand in for a noun, they can take case endings. When adding a case ending, insert the buffer letter -n- after -ki.

For example, to use "yours" as a specific direct object (accusative case): seninki + n + i = seninkini.

My car is being cleaned, therefore I will use yours.
Benim arabam temizleniyor, bu yüzden seninkini kullanacağım.
When I saw the traditional necklace, I remembered hers.
Geleneksel kolyeyi görünce onunkini hatırladım.
Our souvenir got lost, so we are taking theirs.
Bizim hatıramız kayboldu, bu yüzden onlarınkini alıyoruz.
